Animal Care & Control of New York City's (AC&C) innovative Safety Net Program offers guidance, services, and solutions to people who are having problems keeping their animal companions. The goal of the program is to help keep animals with their family by helping the family solve their problem.
Safety Net’s services include low-cost veterinarians, low-cost boarding, free and low-cost behavioral training and guidance, lending of supplies, and free advice for pet-related tenant/landlord issues. These and other solutions have enabled many people to keep their pets and also have helped the finders of stray animals keep or help find loving homes for them without relinquishing the animal to the shelter.
VOLUNTEERS WILL BE FULLY TRAINED TO:
Work onsite in the shelters consulting with people considering or about to surrender their animal, with the goal of preventing the surrender. Every surrender prevented is a success, and in the process, we are educating people about permanent care for companion animals as well as about spaying and neutering. Weekend, weekday and evening shifts available.
We also desperately need people to temporarily FOSTER ANIMALS for clients in crisis who cannot afford our reduced cost boarding.
Also needed are people to help us expand our resources via research and phone calls.
On-site shelter work takes place at Manhattan, Brooklyn, Staten Island, Queens or Bronx shelters.
