Spay Neuter

Not only is it required by law that every animal leaving a shelter be spayed or neutered, but also it is beneficial to the health and behavior of each animal. Most importantly, altering an animal removes the risk of testicular and uterine cancer in both cats and dogs. Also, when an animal is altered at an early age the influence of hormones does not exist, and unwanted behaviors, such as marking its territory and wandering/straying in heat, have not been learned. The most obvious benefits of altering animals are the reduction of unwanted puppies and kittens, the reduction of stray animals, and the comfort of knowing that your animal's life has been lengthened.

Keep in mind that if you are approved to adopt a dog or cat that is already altered (spayed or neutered), you can take him or her home the same day. If you adopt a pet that is not yet spayed or neutered. you will in most cases be able to bring your new pet home the next day.
